Mucky Nutz Bender Fender MTB Front Mudguard Review

Living within the heart of lowland Sherwood Forest it can be a bit of a mud-fest locally throughout the winter months and in honesty summer can be a bit gloopy too. There's some fantastic riding on our doorstep but a degree of protection is required to keep you and the bike running smoothly.

We recently picked up a Mucky Nutz Bender Fender for Jemma's MTB in a fitting cerise colour. It's as close to her beloved purple as we could find and features the clean lines that are aesthetically pleasing to me too. I see too many mtb mudguards plastered with appalling graphics that seems to match their owners abilities to spend money without thinking about clashes in colourschemes.

We're slowly adding more and more purple to Jemma's bike and alongside a beautiful Hope purple stem cap

The Mucky Nutz mudguard comes with a pair of velcro style straps you can cut down and use. These work better than the traditional zip tie fixing method as they allow you to remove and adjust as necessary without having to take a et of cutters to the zip tie.

This type of mudguard is designed to fit fairly closely to a suspension fork bridge although in the case of our Rockshox Recon Silver TK's married with a set of new 2.2 inch Continental Mountain King tyres means that the little rubber strands that come off the tread of a new tyre are subsequently grazing the mudguard and creating noise whilst the wheel rolls. Either I'll be tasked with getting the cutters out or we're hoping that the tread starts to wear down a little soon for some peace and quiet.

Fitting was pretty easy aftr I'd cut down the provided velcro and in practice the fender does it's job well by protecting your face from wheel spray. Due to it's size it's never going to offer full protection but as a precautionary addition it works well givving protection to you alongside a barrier for your fork seals which should hopefully prolong the life of your suspension forks
